The Broken Chain Mystery

The Broken Chain Mystery is a teen/young adult novel that follows the adventures of 15-year-old Joelle Penson and her 13-year-old siter Kayla. While visiting the historic town of Les Baux, France, with their history professor mother and recent millionaire father, the girls learn about a religious purge that took place in 1532 (a true event). Joelle decides that she wants to stand at the bottom of the cliff where so many people died but ends up climbing the rockface. On it she finds a 500-year-old necklace belonging to the youngest daughter of the Lord of Baux. However, finding the historic pendant launches Joelle and Kayla into unwanted fame and makes them the target of thieves and treasure hunters because the Lord of Baux hid a treasure for his daughters, a treasure that has never been found.
